In a world where we strive for certainty and security, why do we often feel empty and trapped? As we start a new year discover how to move beyond the daily grind and find a better perspective: receiving each moment as a gift from a Sovereign God who makes everything beautiful in its time.
As we begin a new year, this sermon returns to 1 Corinthians 15 to clarify what the gospel truly is and what it is not. Rather than good advice or moral instruction, the gospel is good news, the announcement of what God has done in history through Jesus Christ, His death for our sins and His resurrection according to the Scriptures. Received by faith and grounded in grace, the gospel lifts burdens rather than adding to them and secures a living hope beyond death. This message calls us not to start the year by trying harder, but by resting more deeply in Christ’s finished work.
The rules in Leviticus 12-15 are a generous provision to his people to keep them safe, but Jesus offers a better way that makes us holy once and for all.
Jesus’ authority clashes with religious traditions, exposing the dangers of relying on rules rather than Christ. In Mark 2:18-3:6, we see the difference between trusting in man-made added traditions and trusting in Christ alone. This is a clash of two worlds/worldviews that are incompatible with each other.
If you’ve ever been in a dire situation you know the feel of desperation. In our moments of deep need and uncertainty we often appropriately find consolation in running to Jesus. In this account in Mark 2:1–12 some individuals bring their desperate friend to meet Jesus. While they come with the hope of seeing their friend healed, their friend receives something far greater, he receives the forgiveness of God. In this account we are again reminded of the authority of Jesus, his purpose in coming, and are reminded of our need to respond to him in faith.
For many Christians the concept of God as judge is something we might feel uncomfortable with. Judgment, however, is something that is crucial to who God is, and how he responds to wickedness. In Jeremiah 52 we are reminded of God’s kindness to us as he executes justice while providing hope for the repentant sinner.
That Christ will return is a certainty, the exact date is a mystery. In the meantime, Jesus wants us to prepared for his imminent return.

As much as those things have been true for Steve and Bec, they are overwhelmed in thankfulness as they take great joy and delight in God’s gift to them. God took them on a long, and often painful journey that involved infertility, fostering and finally biological twins. But along the way, they’ve seen God’s faithfulness appear again and again.
