Pray for our journey

As many of will you know, prior to becoming a Christian I had been married and divorced as a young man. This marriage produced two incredible children: Sara, who is 15, and Jamie, who is 11. After our divorce, the kids and their mum moved back to her home country, Ireland – where they have lived for the last 11 years.

Being separated from my eldest children – as some of you will know from experience – has been a matter of great grief for myself, and for Sammy since we’ve been married. We try to visit or have them come out once a year, and Skype as often as we can – however it has been the source of much heartache and pain for a long time.

In October last year, my whole family travelled over to Ireland to visit the kids. Whilst there I preached at a church in Belfast, Northern Ireland. After our return this church expressed interest in our moving over to take up a position on their staff team.

After much prayer, discussion, and more prayer, we have decided to pursue this opportunity, thus leaving MBM in January 2018. This has not been an easy decision for us: we love our lives here in Sydney, we both have the rest of our families and friends here, and absolutely love our church family at MBM. In fact, it is fair to say that I have never been happier in my life! However, the opportunity to be near my children, and play a meaningful role in their lives was one that we have decided we could not pass up. We are grieving at the thought of leaving: but rejoice in the opportunity which God seems to have placed in our path.

Sammy has been an incredible support to me personally in this time: the thought of leaving what is a wonderful life here is, in many ways, not logical! However she, as always, has been encouraging and a source of wisdom in how we can best love our kids. I am blessed to have her!

Please pray for Sammy, Sonny (3), Joe (2), baby no. 5 (due in September) and myself as we prepare ourselves for this journey. Please pray that all the logistical components of this would come together. Please pray that in everything, always, we would have our hearts, souls and minds fixed and focused upon our Saviour, the Lord Jesus – the author and perfector of our faith.

We look forward to worshipping our mighty God together with you over the coming months, and continuing to proclaim the saving power of the Lord Jesus – so that we would continue to see lives transformed through him, to the glory of God.
